Engage

There are plenty of opportunites to contribute to the activities of the DPG. Of course, you can start by joining AGyouLeaP and become involved!

If you would like to engage in the science, you can contribute to the DPG conference, not only by submitting an abstract, but by organising a session. The DPG and its conferences are split in three sections, the Condensed Matter Section (SKM), die Atomic, Molecular, Plasma Physics and Quantum Optics Section (SAMOP) and the Matter and Cosmos Section (SMuK) and accordingly there is a DPG conference for each section each year. For all sections, there are different session types like symposia, focus sessions and tutorial, which you can organize. For example, if you organise a symposium, your task is to select and invite speaker to create an attractive programm. For the invited speakers, typically the conference fee is waived and for speakers from abroad some travel support is available. The invitations from the DPG have a high reputation and are typically highly appreciated. Also, you are encouraged to do this in a team with other fellow physicists!

Before starting organising, you should get in touch with the chair of your division. You will find the contact persons at the website of the divisions. Other information might be available via the DPG mailing list of your division (to receive the mailing, please check you setting at "MyDPG"). Of course, if you have any questions, you can also contact us from AGyouLeaP and we will help you to become connected or in writing a successful proposal.

To successfully organise a session, you can following these steps:

  1. Get in contact with your division chair
  2. Write and submit a proposel for a session, you find some helpful information under session types
  3. If granted, ask speakers about their availability (ATTENTION: The official invitation is send by the DPG)
  4. After abstract submission you might be asked to set the time ordering of speakers and about possible contributions (e.g. in focus sessions)
  5. At the meeting you should chair your session

Everything else will be organized by the DPG and the conference chairs, which makes organising something really smooth and pleasant. Of course, it might be nice to invite your speakers to a dinner in the evening. You can ask, if your division has some money for this, as well. We encourage everybody to use this unique opportunity to organise a session!
