Drink and derive: Friday, November 21 at 6 p.m. on the Linnestraße campus

A mixture of pub quiz and integration bee for everyone who loves physics: Form teams, solve entertaining tasks, and have a great evening in a fun atmosphere. You are cordially invited to our first edition of “Drink and derive.”

Excursion to the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg: Thursday, 02.10.2025

The Thuringian State Observatory in Tautenburg (TLS) is a center for basic research in astrophysics, with a focus on extrasolar planets, solar physics, and the history of the universe. On our excursion to the TLS, you will gain insight into the research conducted at the institute and take a tour to see the technical equipment used there.

When? 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where? Thuringian State Observatory, Sternwarte 5, 07778 Tautenburg

Joint arrival/departure: We offer joint travel from Leipzig Central Station (plattform 7, section A) by public transport. Departure and arrival times are 8:00 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.

FaRaPhy and the jDPG-Regionalgroup Leipzig invite you to "Meet-your-Prof." Dr. Katja Taute.

• You are a bio-curious physicist, looking for orientation in this field?

About Dr. Katja Taute:

Dr. Taute studied physics at the University of Leipzig and the University of Canterbury. She completed her PhD in physics at the University of Texas at Austin and a postdoc in systems biophysics at FOM Institute AMOLF, Amsterdam. In 2016, she started her first lab as a Rowland Fellow at Harvard, then served as Deputy Professor of Microbiology at LMU Munich. In 2023, she returned to Leipzig University as a Professor of Systems Biophysics of Microbial Dynamics at the Peter Debye Institute for Soft Matter Physics.

Her research is concerned with bacterial motility. Among other questions her group tries to decipher the origins of different motility strategies with novel tools of 3D tracking.

Christmas Meeting in Leipzig: Friday, 29.11.2024.

The jDPG regional groups Leipzig, Halle, Jena and Dresden invite you to a joint visit to the christmas market and a guided city tour. All Christmas and physics enthusiasts are invited. Anyone who does not yet know the jDPG is very welcome. A registration is not necessary.

When? Friday, 29.11.2024.

• 6 pm: meeting for Christmas market

Where? Meeting point is the LVB mobility center, opposite to Leipzig main station.
