Integration Bee 2025

The Heidelberg Integration Competition 2025

On May 27, 2025, the time had come again: following its successful premiere the previous year, the Integration Bee returned to Heidelberg, once more bringing together students, doctoral researchers, and professors for an evening of outstanding mathematical performance.

Even before the start, the lecture hall filled to capacity, while numerous viewers followed the event via the livestream. With palpable anticipation, the Integration Bee 2025 traditionally began with a professors’ duel.

As the professors entered, the audience created a special atmosphere with loud chants and enthusiastic applause, an opening that made it clear how much everyone had been looking forward to the competition. Unlike the previous year, two professors competed directly against each other this time, engaging in an exciting and entertaining calculation duel that immediately captivated the audience.

Meanwhile, in a neighbouring lecture hall, the participants for the knockout rounds were determined through a qualification test. After the evaluation, the quarterfinalists were set, and the competition could move into its decisive phase.

The quarterfinals demanded a great deal from the contestants: everything from clever substitutions to multi-step integration techniques was represented. Despite the high level of difficulty, several participants ultimately advanced to the semifinals.

Before the semifinals, a short break provided an opportunity to relax and exchange ideas. Snacks were provided—and unlike the previous year, this time there was enough for everyone.

Since four candidates were required for the semifinals, the winner of the Integration Bee preliminary round in Karlsruhe was also welcomed, having already proven themselves against strong competition there.

The semifinals turned into a thrilling head-to-head race. Both matches featured high-level calculations, surprising solution methods, and plenty of applause from the audience. In the end, two finalists emerged, having prevailed against numerous competitors throughout the evening.

Between the decisive rounds, the audience was once again treated to an entertaining interlude: a science rap brought energy, excitement, and plenty of laughter to the lecture hall before the competition entered its final stage.

In the final, two particularly strong contestants faced off. The integrals presented were more challenging than ever, ranging from classical techniques to creative combinations of multiple methods. Contributions from the mathematical community and submitted problems further increased the level of difficulty, making the final a true highlight.

After several intense rounds, one contestant narrowly secured victory. Notably, just like the previous year, the same two finalists, Karan and Felix, stood on stage, and once again, the title went to the same winner. Thus, after an evening full of focus, suspense, and enthusiasm, the winner of the Heidelberg Integration Bee 2025 was determined.

All seats in the lecture hall were filled, the livestream was widely followed, and once again it became clear: the Integration Bee has established itself as a firm tradition in Heidelberg. A heartfelt thank you goes to all participants, helpers, and organizers who made this evening possible.
