Beschreibung
The 17th Theoworkshop will take place in Altleiningen and is intended to give students in late bachelor's or master's studies as well as doctoral students the opportunity to discover the world of current theoretical physics research.
Target group
The workshop is mainly aimed at students in bachelor's (typically starting from the 5th Semester) or master's studies as well as doctoral students. Basic knowledge of introductory modules of theoretical physics is required. This year's Theoworkshop will take place in English for the first time.
Location and arrival
The workshop will take place in Burg-Jugendherberge Altleiningen. The arrival should be self-organized and will be possible from 07.01.2027 in the afternoon.
Schedule
Lectures and discussions will take place during the event. We attempt to shed light on this year's theme of focus in various branches of theoretical physics and invite three speakers with different research focuses.
The exact schedule and the exact topics of the lectures will be announced at a later date.
Speakers:
Prof. Dr. Georg von Hippel
Prof. Dr. Jairo Sinova - magnetic materials
tba
In addition, the participants have the opportunity to give a short lecture (12 min + 3 min discussion) about their own work. The lecture does not have to fit the workshop topic, but should give the opportunity to present your own research and to get feedback in an informal setting.
Registration
The deadline for the registration is the 4th of october!
Participants with special needs or limitations can get in touch with the organization team in advance. We will try our best to find an appropriate solution.
The number of registration places is limited, if there are more applications than expected, the following criteria will be considered for acceptance: study progress, gender, place of study and time of registration.
Participation fee
The participation fee is 135 € for three nights in a multi-bed room with full board. However, towels are not included --- bring your own or rent them for a small fee.
Participants living and working in Germany who are DPG members can apply for funding from the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation. Up to 50% of the participation and travel costs will be reimbursed (for conditions see WE-Heraeus-Förderprogramm). You can also apply for funding even if you do not give a lecture at the workshop. The application for funding can be submitted via . The application must be submitted no later than 6 weeks before the start of the event (26. November 2026) and should not take place until participation in the Theoworkshop has been confirmed by the organization team. It is highly recommended to apply for funding promptly after the registration confirmation.
