Description

The main goals in the active research field of spintronics are the generation, manipulation and detection of spin currents to use the electron spin as an information carrier for spintronic devices. Many new spin-dependent effects are observed in the last years, for instance the spin Hall magnetoresistance, the anisotropic tunnel magnetoresistance, the spin Seebeck effect and the tunnel magneto Seebeck effect. For some effects it is sufficient to describe the spin transport using the Boltzmann theory with non-interacting spins. But for some effects it is necessary to focus on the collective character of the spin motion and precession. Here, one has to describe the 'spin transport beyond Boltzmann'.

In this seminar, we highlight the current research activities in the field of spintronics and discuss the new spin-dependent effects and their experimental as well as theoretical approaches. The seminar is also focussed on the development of new spintronic materials and devices to connect the fundamental physics with the applied research.

15 invited speakers talk about their recent results. Additional contributed talks and poster sessions will support the scientific exchange. Furthermore, a shotgun presentation will give a nice and entertaining overview of the poster topics. There will be a best poster prize and a best shotgun presentation prize. Social events like the get together in the evenings will support the networking in the magnetism community. Young researchers as well as experienced experts are very welcome to join.
