Deutsche Physikerinnentagung (German Conference of Women in Physics)
The Deutsche Physikerinnentagung (DPT) aims to be a forum for women in physics. It brings together dedicated female scientists from all disciplines, career stages and fields of work to showcase their work and network.
The focus is on academic discourse, a lively exchange of experiences and new career prospects. Whether you are a school pupil, university student, researcher, lecturer, teacher or applied physicist – women at all stages of their careers who share a passion for physics are invited to take part in the DPT. Participants of all genders who support the aims of the conference are equally welcome.
The 2026 German Conference of Women in Physics will be hosted by the RPTU University of Kaiserslautern-Landau on its Kaiserslautern campus from 28 to 30 September 2026.
History and milestones of the Deutsche Physikerinnentagung (German Conference of Women in Physics)
The beginnings: Since the 1990s, female physicists in Germany have been meeting regularly to exchange ideas on scientific and social matters.
The breakthrough (1997): In Berlin, the participants officially launched the conference as the Deutsche Physikerinnentagung (DPT). At the same time, an initiative was launched to establish a permanent representative interest group within the German Physical Society (DPG).
An important step (1998): At the conference in Hamburg, the then DPG President Alexander Bradshaw confirmed the establishment of the Working Group on Equal Opportunities (AKC).
Developments since 2006: Between 2006 and 2018, the DPT was held as the official conference of the DPG. All information and reviews relating to these years can be found in the online archive at www.physikerinnentagung.de.
Today: Since 2019, the German Conference of Women in Physics has been held as a successful event independent of the DPG. The Working Group on Equal Opportunities supports the respective teams on site with the organisation.
