The German Physical Society in Berlin

The DPG's presence in Berlin is marked by a representative office. It is located in the Anna-von-Helmholtz Building of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany's National Metrology Institute. The DPG office also serves as the headquarters of the Physikalische Gesellschaft zu Berlin (PGzB).

With its universities and extramural research institutions, Berlin is an important centre of science with a long tradition. In 1845, participants of the Physics Colloquium initiated by Gustav Magnus founded the Physikalische Gesellschaft zu Berlin (PGzB) in Berlin, from which the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) emerged in 1899.

The DPG and the PGzB organise a series of events at the Anna-von-Helmholtz-Bau, but also at other locations in Berlin. These events deal with problems in a broader sense, to which physicists can contribute and which are of general importance for our civilisation. The events present the physical sciences and related disciplines, promote physical research and teaching by intensifying the exchange of ideas between physicists, and encourage interdisciplinary discussions between physics and other technical and scientific fields.
