Applications for the PhD Symposium at the AMOP section will soon be possible here.
For preparing the application you need a topic, a list of speakers and a short motivation, why this topic is suitable for a symposium.
Deadline for applications 01.05. 2019!
Every time you attended a conference, you were looking for an introduction to a certain topic but never found it? You always wanted to organise your own session on a topic intriguing you for a long time? You wanted to share your insights in this topic with your colleagues?
If so, we are happy to be able to give you the opportunity to organise your own symposium (or focus session at SKM) at the DPG Spring Meetings in 2020!
Since 2012, PhD students have been organising their own symposium within the Division of Magnetism and the Section AMOP with great success. The mixture of invited talks by both experienced and young researchers was particularly well appreciated. In particular, tutorial talks introducing people without pre-experience into "hot" research fields were enthusiastically received by the audience.
In 2019, the symposia and focus sessions were already extended to other divisions. For 2020, even more divisions are offering this opportunity. If you are interested in a topic related to the field of
- Section AMOP
- Section MuK
- Division MA
- Divisions SOE, DY and BP
- Divisions DS and HL
- Division O
you are welcome to organise your own symposium!
If you now think you would like to organise such a symposium, but don't know how: don't worry, the experts of the working group "Young DPG" are happy to offer you their experience. Along the way, you will become familiar with the organisational issues of a scientific meeting with thousands of participants.
This is your chance to implement a symposium you always wanted to attend! In addition, it is a chance to get in personal contact with leading scientists in the field at an early stage of your career.
How to get started?
Just pick 1-5 colleagues to form the organisation committee, and fill out the application. The symposium should be devoted to a timely topic related to the field of your division. The organisation committee determines and invites the speakers, compiles the program, organises the symposium day and chooses the chairpersons for their session. The symposium includes up to four invited talks.
For the application, we need a first draft of your planned program and the names of possible invited speakers. Moreover, a short motivation why you want to organise such a symposium and why it fits to the conference is also needed.
The application starts soon here.
