Live from Stockholm – Announcement of the Physics Nobel Prize 2021

On the 5th of October 2021, the announcement of this year's Physics Nobel Prize was broadcasted at the Magnus-Haus Berlin. Present members of the young DPG were Hannes Vogel (chairman 2018-2019) and Pauleo Nimtz (regional group Potsdam). Interviews with the president of the DPG, Lutz Schröter, and experts of the nominees' physical subjects were the frame programme. The event was covered by the press.

Syukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann and Giorgio Parisi were awarded for their work on the physics of complex systems. In times of climate change, this choice seems very up to date. It also underlines the universality of physical principles and their importance to non-physical subjects. Concluding, it is worth noting that after two years of astrophysics, the prize again highlights a less popular subject of physics.

Congratulations to this year's awardees!
