Virtual tour of ESA

Are you interested in how satellites are built and tested, how modern 3D printing techniques might be used to build lunar bases, or how rovers explore the surfaces of the Moon or Mars? The European Space Agency (ESA) has been researching in precisely these areas and is driving innovation in space-related fields for decades.

If you want to learn more about the ESA, its projects and workflows, join our virtual tour of the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), the technical heart of ESA (European Space Agency. On two dates we will get general insights into the work of more than 3000 people from 22 member states and dive deeper into some specific areas of interest, such as the design of rovers or satellites. The event will be held virtually via Zoom and in English. Below is the detailed program:

Thursday 06 May 2021 from 16:30-18:00 via Zoom:

  • Beginning: General introduction to how the agency works and what the various activities are.
  • 16:55 first topic “Satellite Testing”(a virtual panoramic tour of the satellite ESTEC Test Centre)
  • 17:25 second topic “3D printing for space”(research and applications for future space missions)

Thursday 13 May 2021 from 16:00-18:00 via Zoom:

  • Beginning: short reintroduction
  • 16:35 first topic “Robotics for Moon & Mars”(types of robotic experiments done for exploration)
  • 17:05 second topic “Spin-offs from space tech”(turning innovations into products for everyday life)
  • 17:30 third topic “Astronaut food & nutrition”(the what, why and how of eating in space including research)
