DPG photo competition: My DPG conference bag "on Tour"

How can one recognise that a DPG-Frühjahrstagung (DPG Spring Conference) is held in the city? Besides the large number of international guests who make their way to the university, there is one feature that immediately catches the eye: the DPG conference bag!

In the anniversary year 2020, the DPG called for a special kind of photo competition: Pictures were sought that depicted one of the most distinctive features of the DPG-Frühjahrstagungen (DPG Spring Conferences) - the conference bags.

The conditions were difficult:

  • Cancellation of the 2020 DPG-Frühjahrstagungen, therefore no fresh conference bags.
  • Pandemic-related travel restrictions that made photos at exotic locations impossible.
  • Generally enough on ones plate with home office, distance learning, etc.

Nevertheless, DPG members submitted diverse, creative and beautiful images. The submissions are presented on this website. A small calendar was created from some of the pictures, which the submitters received as a thank you.

Have fun with the submitted pictures!

Not a serious picture for competition, but maybe a cheerful message: Happy Easter and thank you for so many perfectly organised DPG-events!

I am a scientist at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France. When the sun goes down, the French Alps "glow", as seen here in the picture - a breathtaking sight every time. One of my many DPG bags is lying on the railing of the "Pont de la Porte de France".

The all-purpose bag can also be used as a sun pad :)

Here you can see a DPG conference bag from the spring conference 2015 on the high seas. As a flag it shows the wind direction and accompanies me on my journey.

DPG in Corona times. Much team-spirit and celebration of the 175th anniversary!
Depending on the interpretation, the picture can represent both a virus (for current situation) and a sun (hope).
