Im gemeinsam vom britischen Institute of Physics (IOP)und der DPG herausgegebenen elektronischen Fachmagazin "New Journal of Physics" werden Originalarbeiten aus dem gesamten Bereich der Physik veröffentlicht. Diese Open-Access-Zeitschrift erscheint online unter www.njp.org. Alle Artikel können weltweit kostenfrei gelesen und heruntergeladen werden. Das "New Journal of Physics" setzt auf höchste wissenschaftliche Qualität: Die im Journal publizierten Artikel haben ein strenges Prüfverfahren ("Peer-Review") durch internationale Gutachter durchlaufen.

Im Jahr 2008 feierte das New Journal of Physics sein zehnjähriges Bestehen.

Timed to coincide with its 10th anniversary as a showcase for how New Journal of Physics is at the vanguard of supporting visualization and multimedia, we have put together an exclusive focus issue on the topic of Visualization in Physics. Through the series of outstanding contributions below - spanning astrophysics, biophysics, geophysics, medical physics and quantum physics - this special collection celebrates the importance of visualization, and its growing use by a broad range of physicists.

Our intention is for this collection to offer a unique opportunity for the diverse community of scientists using visualization to share and access work in one issue of a journal. Readers are also directed to the December issue of Physics World which includes a series of related features highlighting work in this issue, and other novel applications of visualization techniques.
