Bad Honnef Physics School on

Plasma-Astroparticle Physics

The scope of Astroparticle physics comprises the production, the propagation and the detection of cosmic particles on the complete energy scale, and of electromagnetic radiation at all wavelengths. This field is based on roots in astronomy respectively astrophysics and plasma physics at the one hand and on cosmology respectively particle physics on the other. Acceleration and propagation of large particle populations are commonly described by means of plasma physics, whereas the (rare but meaningful) interactions of particles from this populations are described by calculation and simulation techniques from the field of particle physics. The observations are done with telescopes looking not only at astronomical sources but also on particle properties - and telescope-like acting particle detectors.
This School will present the actual state of the of Plasma-Astroparticle Physics and is directed to Master and PhD students.

The Concept of the School
This PhD School comprises of lectures accompanied by practical tutoring, which is meant to give further insights into specific topics (focus astro, plasma or particle physics to enlarge the students' background in so far underrepresented topics of their individual studies). Students will be given the opportunity to present their work as well.

There will be lecture series focusing on the following areas:
• Plasma-Astrophysics and the non-thermal Universe
• Cosmic ray interactions and their role in the astrophysical context
• Multimessenger astronomy
• Multimessenger astronomy

Tutoring
Accompanying the lectures and presentations by students, there will be tutoring sessions, which will deal with specific areas of interest. The topics of the tutoring groups are:
• Astrophysics
• Plasma physics
• Particle physics

FEES     200 € full board and lodging (for DPG* members 100 € )
