On Monday, October 25, 2010, the Erwin Schroedinger Institute (ESI) was
informed -without prior warning - that its funding by the Austrian
Ministry of Science will be terminated with effect from January 1, 2011.
The reason given for this decision was a 'radical structural change in the consolidation of Austrian extrauniversity research', apparently affecting more than 100 scientific institutions in Austria.
As it stands, this decision means that the ESI will have to terminate its activities in early 2011.
It may not be too late to reverse this step, but time is running short.
If you wish to express support for continued funding (and, indeed, existence) of the ESI we ask you to communicate urgently your views to the minister responsible:
